The Maverick strives to attract non-theater audiences by producing shows based on screenplays, pop culture and history.
The Maverick Theater is a volunteer theater founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Brian Newell, Heidi Newell and Jim Book . The venue has two stages, a cabaret stage and a black box stage. The Maverick opened at it’s permanent Fullerton location on June 23rd, 2005 with The Rocky Horror Show. Since then, The Maverick has become known for its original stage adaptations of films, including King Kong, Night of the Living Dead (an annual Halloween production), and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (an annual Christmas production).
